Preah Khan Temple

Preah Khan sits north-east of Angkor Thom, just west of the Jayatataka baray. Jayavarman VII founded it in the late 12th century as a Buddhist monastery, university and city that once housed thousands of officials and students.

Unlike the temple-mountains, Preah Khan is laid out flat, with long vaulted corridors that narrow as they approach the central sanctuary.

Much of the site has been deliberately left in a state of managed ruin, with silk-cotton trees still gripping the galleries.
